Title: Artificial Learning: Putting into perspective half a century of evolution.
Speaker: Antoine Cornuéjols
The search for algorithms capable of learning bagan immediately after the definition of the Turing machine in 1936 and the development of the first computers. Recently, the unprecedented increase in the size of the digital universe has put the spotlight on ‘big data’ and, by the same token, on the means of extracting regularities or, better still, knowledge from it algorithmically.
From the cybernetic revolution of the 1940s to the current period, characterised by an apparent profusion of nuw learning algorithms, the presentation will show how the objectives and approach to algorithmic learning have evolved. The broad outlines of this evolution will be highlighted in order to shed light on its logic and to stimulate a debate on the successes and limitations of the discipline and on possible bets for its future development.
