What we call AI has invaded society. AI helps us detect and treat diseases, guide us on holiday trips, find products that interest us, and so on. AI also makes it possible to create fakes to manipulate public opinion. We hear that it will soon render many jobs obsolete, that it is destroying the environment in order to extract the metals needed to manufacture chips, and that it requires phenomenal amounts of electricity and water to operate. We will try to shed some light on the matter.
